This is a free, downloadable fan-subtitled version of the 2012 live-action film adaptation of the popular manga/anime series "Rurouni Kenshin." The next part is wrong. It should be: "It's been two decades since the Great Unification, and Japan has long been a prosperous island nation with forgotten wars behind it. This all changes when Shishio Makoto gathers together an army and plots to overthrow the Meiji government."
This movie was great! I had a lot of fun watching it and everybody in my family enjoyed it too. The sword fights were violent but still very creative. A great mix of action and comedy. The only problem was that the movie did not follow the original story line when it came to the last part of the movie when Kenshin fights Shishio. The reason why I gave it 4 stars is because when they edited in the story line about Kayo's father, they left out another important part in which Kenshin realizes that he can no longer fight because he loves Kaoru so much. If you don't think this is a big deal, just imagine if Arnold Schwarzenegger decided to stop fighting in Terminator 2 because he loves Linda Hamilton so much. That's how important this part in the film is to me. This is not a criticism of the actors at all. I think they did a great job in portraying their characters. It just didn't follow the story line that it was based on. Besides that, everything else in the movie was excellent. I loved it. This movie was great! The story line was about 50% accurate to the original manga/anime which is probably the reason why some people might not like this movie. But if you can get past that it's an excellent watch.(The first fight with Shishio at night is the best-action scene of the movie!).
